360 degree feedback, also known as multi-rater feedback, is anonymous feedback that received from key stakeholders of an employee on the work performance. Most often, the sources of 360 degree feedback come from an employee’s supervisors, peers, subordinates as well as self-evaluation. In some cases, it may also include external stakeholders such as customers, vendors or partners who are viewed as having formal and significant working relationship with the employee.
This multi-rater feedback presents how an employee perceives themselves at work and how it compares to others’ perceptions of them. It provides insights to employee’s performance and the quantitative feedback allows structured planning of development interventions targeted to employee’s needs. Results obtained may also guide organisations to make decisions related to rewards and promotion as part of the performance appraisal process.
