Get to Know the People Psyentist®: Evelyn Chue, Managing Director of People Psyence®

Evelyn Chue is an entrepreneur, a Women Icons Malaysia 2019 award recipient, a personality in the first edition of Successful People in Malaysia Britishpedia, an employer, leader, a friend, and a mother of two. Her passion for helping people and her fascination with understanding what makes people tick led to People Psyence®’s establishment. As the founder and managing director of People Psyence®, Evelyn wears the People Psyentist® title with pride, ensuring that the organisation stays true to its purpose of helping people by bridging the gap between the various individuals in an organisation.

Many who know her now may find it hard to believe, but Evelyn used to be an incredibly timid person who rarely spoke up or took the lead. Now, she is an outspoken person who is fearless in trying out unconventional ideas that revolutionise how things are done. She attributes this drastic change to her life-changing experience as a foreign exchange student in Japan, sponsored by the Rotary Club.

Far away from home and everything she was familiar with, Evelyn realised that she had no one else to rely on but herself. Through challenges such as language barriers, cultural differences and racism, she became more independent. She learned to try new things, fail, pick herself up from the ground and try again. It was a bold, confident and determined Evelyn who returned to Malaysia one year later. Despite her newfound confidence, Evelyn chose to defer to her father’s wisdom when it came to choosing her course for university. She compromised between her father’s recommendation to do IT and her own interest in business by completing a double degree in IT and business.

Evelyn’s first job was at an IT company building human resources (HR) management systems. Although she enjoyed the work and thrived in that environment, she found herself drawn to the HR side of things. This experience together with her cross-cultural experience in Japan solidified her interest and passion for people. Thus, she obtained another degree – this time in Psychology. The rest, as some might say, is history.

Evelyn went on to work in one of the business units of Deloitte Consulting – Thomas International, working with assessments and human capital consulting. She climbed the corporate ladder and quickly became senior manager. However, her thirst for adventure was not quenched. Boldly, she left with a clear vision – to build a company that not only offered standard tools, but would design customised solutions to organisations’ people needs. Thus, People Psyence® was born.

With Evelyn at the helm, People Psyence® flourished and grew rapidly, establishing themselves as psychometric assessment specialists, winning the Gold Best Psychometric Testing Provider award at the HR Vendors of the Year awards in 2017, 2019, and 2020. Ever enterprising, Evelyn did not stop at conquering the psychometric assessments field, but aspired for People Psyence® to be a holistic human capital solutions provider. Thus, design thinking and gamification were added into People Psyence®’s arsenal of service offerings to innovate customised and engaging solutions to clients’ needs. Not one to rest on her laurels, Evelyn turned her attention to the passion project that had taken a back seat for some time – a mind wellness consultancy service that provides all-inclusive support for individuals and organisations’ employees. This passion project evolved into an independent company – Eunoia Mind Wellness Hub.

As evident in the many things she has done and accomplished, Evelyn is a mover and shaker; change and innovation are inevitable with her around. It is with this adventurous spirit and innovative mind that she steers People Psyence® towards her vision of a constantly evolving and future-ready human capital consulting organisation with regional impact.
